Google no longer geo-redirecting users?

Posted by stuart as

Anyone else noticed that since google updated to their poxy new favicon, that searchers are no longer being redirected to their local google?

Used to be that when I typed “google.com” into my address bar, I’d be redirected to “google.com.au”, this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Whilst this is good for keeping an eye on my non-geotargeted niche sites, it’s a royal PITA when trying to look up my geotargeted local stuff.

Anyone else noticing this in other parts of the world?

I believe that in the UK displays google.com most of the time. However it displays more UK based results than if you are based elsewhere.

It still redirects me from google.com -> google.bg
but it doesn’t with google.co.uk and other

I still get redirected to .co.uk and whenever I’m on .com version on purpose I still get UK related results.

I can confirm that this works fine for me as of todays date. When I visit Google.com it redirects me to Google.ca

Maybe your ISP changed something and now it doesn’t redirect you? BTW, I’m using firefox 2.0

I’m still getting redirected to Google.si when I visit google…

The same is the case with me, if I type http://www.google.com, it redirect me to http://www.google.co.in and not .com.

FYI, the search made from Google Toolbar will show result in http://www.google.com

in Malaysia, by defaults it always be google.com.my until we change back to google.com but however the results is a bit different in searching the same keyword

No but that’s got to be killin there loadtime(s), and in tern keeping connections longer and stealing resources. Maybe they have some other update in the next few days that will resolve it. Im sure they know.

The geotargetting result still usefull in google so that only local site will be listed at specific country.

Found this post searching for this issue. Apparently this is a happing again today. Wonder if it’s just a glitch.
