Keyword stuffing is alive and well in the SEO industry
I was doing a little research today in my quest to rank first page in Google for SEO related terms in my home town , when I came across a page that was ranking first page for the term “Adelaide SEO”, but appeared to have no mention of the term in the copy of the page itself.
Cloaking? I wondered….didn’t seem to be.
Then I scrolled down the page. Down, and down, and down some more…..
Wow! This is what I found:

This is one of Adelaide’s most respected Web Development houses, flagrantly using, getting away with, and ranking with, an SEO tactic that is sooooo 1997 that you’d think that google would be all over it.
I feel sorry for any of their prospective SEO clients. If this is the tactics that they use on clients sites, there may well be website owners wondering why they paid good money for rankings worse than what they started with.
For shame….

It would appear I was wrong all along about anchor text!
I’m currently trying out some paid directory submission services, to see what type of service is available for the ridiculously low prices our sub-continental friends charge.
Whilst I understand that directory links are probably not worth that much, at $20 for 300 submissions, I figured that that was still pretty good value. And before anybody mentions it - poor quality backlinks can’t hurt your site, if they could, I could unleash a bit of php to nuke your site into oblivion with about a million dodgy backlinks in fifteen minutes.
Anyhoo, so I’m wading through a plethora of “Confirm your submission to our directory” type emails, which generally have anything from spammy links in them to random SEO advice etc, and I come across this little gem:
Thank you! for your link submission in [directory name] Directory. If your link is approved it will be notified to you by
email. Here are some free seo tips for you. Its important that while
submitting your site to directories you must use your company name or
site name(domain name) in anchor text while giving title. Putting a
keyword in anchor text is a black hat seo and directories taking
keyword in anchor text of a link are getting penalized.
Yeah, those links with your keywords in the anchor text will get you every time!
Sheesh!

Wasting your time creating linkbait?
Spend any time reading the big boys (and girls) of the SEO blogging world, and you’ll hear an awful lot about creating linkbait.
Linkbait is defined by wikipedia as thus:
Link bait is any content or feature within a website that somehow baits viewers to place links to it from other websites.
Which is all well and good, assuming that your readers have the capacity, inclination, and skill to actually link to you.
I have a blog where I write about the issues facing people who suffer from kidney disease (an issue close to my heart). I could create all the linkbait I like in this field, but the simple fact of the matter is that the vast majority (over 95%?) of the readers of that blog don’t actually have their own blog or website.
The fact that they have no means to place a link on a website or blog of theirs makes my linkbait virtually worthless.
So remember, it’s all well and good to create linkbait for your make money online blog, as the chances are that the majority of your readers has the capacity to link to you, but think long and hard before you spend a lot of time creating linkbait for people who can’t link to you.

Are ebay the most retarded company on the planet?
Ebay announced yesterday that they were using Australia (who says we don’t get anything first here?) as a test case for a couple of changes in the way people buy and sell on the auction site.
From the start of June, all items on eBay Australia will have to be paid for online using a PayPal account or a Visa or Mastercard transaction through PayPal.
Now I can see why ebay would do this, think of all those sexy, sexy commissions ebay (the owner of paypal) will get from all those paypal transactions, but looking a little further afield, this is quite possibly one of the most fucked up, short sighted decisions I’ve ever seen.
Mrs. PimpMyPageRank is an avid ebayer. She pays for stuff using direct bank deposit. She knows about paypal because I use it a fair bit, but she’s not that comfortable with the thought of using it.
What ebay need to understand here is that the average Australian either doesn’t know what paypal is, doesn’t know how to use it, or has heard of it but won’t use it (would you give your credit card details to someone you’d barely heard of?)
The other problem is that theres millions of Australians who either don’t have a credit card, or a paypal account (You can’t have a paypal account without a credit card anyway) .
Don’t think it won’t happen where you are either, history shows that once these things start, there’s very little chance of stopping them
Ebay - My top nomination for fucktards of the year.
G'day!
