The lies some SEO’s tell prospective clients.

Posted by stuart as , , ,

Been doing a little research today, having a look at what it would take to rank for the term Search Engine Optimisation Australia.

The main thing I’ve discovered is that some SEO companies either have no idea, or they are telling their prospective clients outright lies.

Let’s take a look at what the company which ranked number two in google for the above term were telling people who find their site:

Meta Tags are one of the most important factors of onpage search engine optimization. The better you define your Meta Tags, the better your search engine ranking will be. Meta Tags are lines of the html(website) which provides information about a particular web page. Meta Tags play a key role in the optimisation process. Using optimised content and Meta tagging along with other internet marketing strategies you can shoot your site up to the top of all search page listings.

And some more:

Using Search Engine Submission, the optimised web pages in your website are submitted to leading search engines, web directories and categories in such a way that they are prioritized for top placements and positioning.

Oh dear….

THAT is classic. I hadn’t visited that particular site, though I too, have checked on the competitiveness of Search Engine Optimisation Australia.

Good luck on that one.

well, at some corner or the other, the SEO companies always promise u the stars but initially, everything is like, made in heaven but gradually u come a feeling that,” oh ma god!! what did i do?” what i would like to say is, google SERPs change frequently, what with google indexing millions of pages daily. so it is always highly probable that ur site gets pushed down the results.

This is so typical. I’ve read so much articles from “experts” promoting meta tags as the single most important thing that i believed it until i actually saw that some people can do quite well (much better than me that is) without even using tags.

SEO cos promising stars is downright outrageous. its really gonna do more harm that good.

Ha.. meta tags are like so 1999. However, SEO is a new study and there really is no solid right/wrong at the moment.

meta-tags when used sensibly make more impact. the good meta-tags wud otherwise be wasted.

I keep wondering why so many people shell out the money for SEO. It takes people a couple of minutes to hear the word SEO and if you do a simple google search, half of the results say buy here, the other half says don’t give them a dime unless you are an idiot because this very simple to do for yourself

lol, wow… those guys are stuck in the 90’s.

It shouldn’t be too hard to out rank them. Too many people know nothing about SEO.

A company run by the Private Equity group where I work had hired a company to do SEO. They hired some idiot firm which was able to get away with describing their activities as a kind of black magic - and everyone was fooled until he met with me.

I showed the board that the page he built was entirely in Flash - while very sexy for the President, it was TERRIBLE for SEO!

They had made some kind of arrangement to get paid more as the company rose in search engine rankings and were trying to fleece the company president.

There were no keywords visible to Google on the entire site. There was no linking strategy. They just built a Flash page, hoped it would somehow get page rank and charged the company a fee for SEO - at least until I pointed out that they were a band of dishonest imbeciles.

Sorry to post twice on the same thread, but I wrote a hub on hubpages about ’suckersearch’ which is relevant to this discussion… in it, I described some of the companies which try to fleece neophytes for SEO. Calling directories search engines and such.

Directories can be helpful, but you should not be led to believe that they are the same thing as being cataloged by a search engine.

I have seen first hand the addition of meta tags improving a site. Of course, having a site that people will actually want to go to helps in the process. You could have the best meta tags in the world, and if your page has nothing, people will still ignore it.
