Happy Birthday to my Kidney!

Posted by stuart as link building

Exactly one year ago, to the hour, I was just coming out of surgery having been thecandle.jpg unexpected and grateful recipient of a desperately needed kidney transplant.

This new chance at life has meant an awful lot to me, my wife, and two wonderful boys. Not needing to go to dialysis four times a week, to have gigantic needles stuck in my arm and having to sit still for four hours while toxins were mechanically removed from my blood being not the least of them.

To my wonderful donor, whose decision to have their license stamped with the words “Organ Donor” has meant that my sons have a much greater chance of having a dad who lives long enough to watch them grow up, and my wife, less of a chance that she will be left to raise two sons on her own, words aren’t enough to express my gratitide.

To the family of my donor, my heart cries out for you in the darkeness of the grief that this anniversary of the passing of your loved one must bring. I know it will be little consolation to your grieving, but I want to thank you, not from myself, but from my sons, and my wife, for allowing their daddy and husband to be there when they need him now, and into the future.

Sincerely, I wish I was eloquent enough to express my thanks, but I’m not, so once again, if you’re up there keeping an eye on all the people who were lucky enough to be the beneficiaries of your amazingly generous act, this humble blogger says thankyou.

Congrats on the anniversay :)

I think you express really eloquently your gratitude and you continued life will be reward enough to your donor, I wish you well

Hey Stuart,

I came to check out your blog after finding a very old post of you linking back to my own blog.

But I was shocked and even ‘pleasantly’ surprised to see such a thoughtful and personal post here. Really like the way you also dicuss your personal things.

Do you still have contact with the family of your donor? I’ve got a friend who got a lung donated, and he regularly visits the old family. It gives them the feeling a part of their late beloved one is still with them.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIDNEY! I’m really happy that things have worked out so well for you. It’s definitely one of those things that people need to be aware of - to be able to say - I will donate. Because there are loads of people out there who would very much like to lead a normal life with their family.

I’m so happy for you!!! :)

Love the personal post. Happy Birthday Kidney!

Happy birthday, Stu’s kidney!

Very touching story pal. You did a great job of expressing yourself.

Happy birthday kidney!! Dialysis is horrible. You must really feel like a person again.

I’m glad your wife and kids will have you around for a lot longer. Congratulations!

:)

Congrats on the anniversary mate :)

Wow, thankyou all so much for your kind words! :-)

It’s been a hell of a ride the last year, battling rejection episodes which are brought under control by massive doses of steroids, fighting side effects of drugs which are just plain nasty, and all sort of other innumerable problems.

Dave -> I don’t have any contact with the donor family. We have laws preventing that here in Australia, to protect both parties.

Empress -> You’re right. Organ Donor awareness is such an important issue for me, but I’ve shied away from talking about it too much here, even though this is a personal blog, because it’s such a personal thing, and I’d never push anyone who didn’t want to be an organ donor to do it.

Tom -> Wow! great to hear from you mate! I’d love to hear how you’re doing since you left us? What have you been up to? How’s life treating you?

Once again, thanks all so much for your kind words!

How are you doing with those rejection episodes? Have they decreased?

I am glad from side to hear that your kidney working. This operation must be agreement between two sides. If people benefit that is great!

Wish you a healthy life in future.

It’s nice to hear that a year has passed and you didn’t had problems with your new kidney!
It would have been better if you didn’t had to get a new one but it’s nice that you are able to be with your family and friends today!
Regards,
Joey

I hope now that a year has past that the worse is over and that you can look forward to a long painfree life

What an endearing and heartfelt article. It really made my day. Thank you for sharing.

Finding kidney donors is indeed very hard but here in our place you tend to buy kidney for some sort of price. Anyway I tend to feel that something is really wrong with my kidney now and I am praying that it won’t be worse since its hard to find kidney donors now. Your lucky to find one really.

ah happy birthday to you man!
