5 reasons my wife would make a great black-hat SEO

It’s no secret that the Pimp has had occasion to dabble in the black arts of SEO. He figures that if you’re going to try to be good at something, you’d better assess any and all facets of the game, including what some would see as the “less palatable” practices undertaken by some in the industry.

To be honest, I’ve made a bit of scratch pushing the limits of what’s within the search engines’ guidelines (I don’t do link spam though, so don’t bitch to me about your blog comments, OK?), I even have some sites which still bring me income every month, whilst I’m waiting for the search engines to catch up with them, but I seem to lack the application, and the balls-to-the-wall sheer bloody mindedness to have a serious crack at it. What I have discovered over the last year or so of dabbling is that Mrs. PimpMyPageRank would make an awesome SEO mobster. Here’s why…..

1. She’s organised. Whilst I couldn’t organise a pissup in a brewery, she organises everything in my house. She’d have no problems keeping track of thousands of domain names and hundreds of affiliate programs.
2. She’s efficient. While she wouldn’t know a web host from a wet nappy, or a cpanel from the wood paneling in our kitchen, she is shit-hot at working out the simplest and most effective way of doing something. She’d have everything automated down to which needlecraft blogs she spammed which keywords to.
3. She’s results driven. Where I invest far too much love and time into my spam sites tightly focused niche sites, she’d be churning out 100 sites a day. When one site got dropped by Google, she’s unleash ten more.
4. She’s analytical. She’d have the most kick-ass blackhat console giving her at-a-glance stats on everything going on in her empire. She’d quickly know what’s working, what’s not, and she’d adjust her strategy accordingly.
5. She’s bloody minded. She’d boot poor strategies without a second thought.

So while Mrs. PimpMyPageRank couldn’t write a line of code to save herself, I reckon if she put her mind to it, she’d kick my ass in the blackhat stakes within a matter of months.

So you call yourself an internet marketer, eh?

Been directing my vast intellectual resources to trying to find an answer to the following question today:

What actually is Internet Marketing?

A quick google of allintitle: internet marketing shows around 2 million results, so obviously a lot of people are talking about the subject, but I’m finding it difficult to define what Internet Marketing actually is….

A google search of define: internet marketing actually shone a little less light on the subject than I was hoping. Most of the definitions given actually talk about marketing a product or service that you own or provide, whereas the majority of bloggers on the subject seem to be talking about marketing other people’s products or services.

So, do you call yourself an internet marketer? How would you define what you do?

Although I’ve had little success defining the term internet marketing for myself, it might be a little easier to define what I think internet marketing isn’t:

• Slapping some AdSense ads on your blog (guilty) does not make you an internet marketer
• Writing a blog post about a product, and including your Amazon affiliate link (guilty) does not make you an internet marketer
• Throwing up a few (million?) auto-generated pages with affiliate links in them (guilty as charged) does not make you an internet marketer.

I’m not saying you can’t make money doing these things, I know I’ve made a bit of spondoola using these methods, I just don’t think that they’re what I would call internet marketing methods.
Something I do think that good internet marketers do is to add value to the product or service that they are promoting. Instead of linking to the product or service with an affiliate ID attached, they give you a good reason to purchase through them. It might be an add-on for the product, it might be an expanded training manual, or it might be a cash rebate.

What’s all this rubbish I keep hearing about keyword density

There’s an interesting post on the HOBO SEO blog today, where Shaun has asked a bunch of SEO ‘Identities’ their thoughts on whether keyword density is still a ranking factor.

The general consensus seems to be that it’s no longer a factor, or if it is, it’s so far down the order of merit as to not require attention.

I’ll give you a tip for free here - keyword density is important in that if you don’t have your keyword on your page at all, you have absolutely zero chance of ranking for it.
