The Australian Government wants to take away my Porn!
Posted by stuart as Uncategorized
The newly elected Labor Government in Australia has announced that it is looking at mandatory ISP level porn filtering for all Australian internet connections.
Senator Conroy says it will be mandatory for all internet service providers to provide clean feeds, or ISP filtering, to houses and schools that are free of pornography and inappropriate material.
Online civil libertarians have warned the freedom of the internet is at stake, but Senator Conroy says that is nonsense.
He says the scheme will better protect children from pornography and violent websites.
Those wanting to circumvent the porn filters will need to contact their ISP to have the filtering turned off.
Here’s the kicker:
“Labor makes no apologies to those that argue that any regulation of the internet is like going down the Chinese road,” he said.
“If people equate freedom of speech with watching child pornography, then the Rudd-Labor Government is going to disagree.”
Child Pornography? When the fuck did the argument become about child pornography? This filtering is to block out ALL pornography. I have no issue with ISP level filtering of child porn, but there’s an issue which makes Stephen Conroy’s (Australian federal minister for taking away my right to look at dirty pictures) spurious use of the child porn issue look even more ridiculous:
ISP’s are going to be provided a “blacklist” of inappropriate sites by the Government. (How do I get the job of being the person who checks all the sites? That sounds like a fun job!
). Now if the Government knows about sites which are disseminating child porn, would they not be in touch with INTERPOL, and having these sites shut down anyway? Besides, let’s face it, it’s a pretty stupid deviant who uploads a shitload of illegal jpeg’s into the public_html folder on his hostgator reseller account, isn’t it?
Anybody who’s been reading this blog for a while know’s my complete abbhorance of anything which adversely affects children. I have two beautiful young boys who I would kill for in an instant if I believed that they were in any danger.
But does that mean that if I want to look at some porn in the privacy of my own home, I should have to call up my ISP and tell them to unblock my connection? Shit no! I can buy this stuff at a newsagent, why should I not be able to watch it on my home computer.

I do understand your concern, but I think that the legislation is just for the general welfare of kids and fighting against child pornography. But it may need some tweaks because of the loopholes in it. ![]()
but i dont agree with this..it affects one’s privacy..if u are above 18 or 21 u r allowed to watch whatever you want..
