New keyword competition analyzer

I created the following tool a while ago for my own personal use. It’s a keyword competition analyzer, which, in effect, um, analyzes the competition for a keyword.

I’ve decided to tidy to layout up a bit and make it available for free (to use, not to download).

So what does it do?

Well, you enter a keyword you for which you think you might like to rank in the search engines, and you’re give back the top ranking sites in Google for that keyword.

Once you have your list of competing sites, you click one of the links, and you will be presented with the following information for the page you want to out-rank:

• PageRank of the page in question
• The date the domain in question was registered (domain age is an important factor in ranking)
• The date the doimain in question expires (for all you domain whores)
• The amount of links shown in Google and Yahoo to the page in question
• The amount of links shown in Google and Yahoo to the domain upon which the page resides
• Site saturation for the site in question, from both Google and Yahoo
• The page title, meta description and keywords for the page in question.

So why is this tool useful?

Well, if you’ve spent any time researching keywords, you’ll understand that gathering keywords is only half the work. Analyzing keyword competition is crucial to avoid wasting time on keywords you have no chance of ranking for. This tool saves you the time of loading up Google and Yahoo and checking out the competition, then checking backlinks, site saturation, domain links etc.

A quick note on why I haven’t included MSN Live stats in the analyzer - well, Live is a poxy search engine for a start, and they also don’t make site statistics available.
