Amazon affiliate program blows if you live outside the US
I’ve been having a reasonable amount of success promoting Amazon products on some of my sites, and am rapidly approaching the US$100 threshold to get my first cheque from them.
I wandered over to the payment options page today, and noticed something I hadn’t noticed before: Amazon will charge US$15 to send a cheque to me.
I live outside the US (Australia), so direct bank deposit is unavailable to me (Google can do it, so why can’t Amazon?). I know they’d have to mail me a cheque, but $15 FFS? What a ripoff!
I’m on the 6% commission with Amazon, which means I have to sell $250 worth of products just to cover the cost of them mailing me the cheque!
Bastards.

Is there not an Australian Amazon? We have Amazon UK which pays direct into the bank on reaching £10/$20.
I also have an Amazon US affiliate account but with the fees to get the cheque plus then having to pay to get the cheque converted by your bank, it probably isn’t worth it!
Hi Sarah
Nah, we don’t have our own Amazon (there’s only just over 20 million of us)
Even if there was, like it or not, The US is where the market is for the stuff I’m promoting.
Fortunately, I don’t put a lot of work into these sites, so I’ll cop the loss as it’s really passive income anyway.
I too agree, Amazon is not for small sellers outside US.
Amazon sucks….I took it off after mustering a mear $4.24 in 3 months.
not worth the effort and now that it’s goingto cost to get the cash, I’m def going to stop them.
Thanks for this information… I will look if there is a chance for me in Germany too!
Greetings!
Their program sucks. Those 15 dollars are a ripp off, not to mention their 1 day cookie.
I’ve never had any luck with Amazon. Some people swear by it. I guess it depends on the content of your site.
WOW. $15 for a cheque. That doesn’t sound good. A lot of complaints, hopefully it will change a few things. Its a good affiliate program, if they stop these unethical and im moral ways of making money.
I have no luck with Amazon affiliate program ever since i joined it few months back and finally decided to pull out the string.
I agree that for non U.S affiliates will only make few bucks compare to other affiliate program on the net.
I don’t understand why Amazon can’t make an affliate program so visitors from US see ads from the American Amazon site, people from the UK see ads from the English Amazon site and so on … Can’t be that difficult.
I have heard similar complaints about amazon’s affiliate programs. Although they are a pioneer in affiliate internet marketing, their program has many flaws, one of them being the fees you mentioned. Have you looked into cj.com ?
Amazon can be hard work, but they have the big trusted brand name behind them. This means that people at least know the company and trust it when they click through your link.
Speaking from experience, it really sucks trying to make a living online when you live outside of the US. I’m from Malaysia and find it stressful at times to find techniques that work. Paypal doesn’t provide us a withdrawal option and almost everything uses Paypal (Paypal sucks btw LOL), clickbank has banned us and withdrawal options from other opportunities cost a bundle! Sometimes I dont know why I still try…..

So you are operating in The Netherlands at the moment? Is that because Malaysa doesn’t have a big market?
That’s why I’ve given up being an Amazon affiliate. I also live outside the US, plus it costs a lot to encash a check and it’s a lot more work to open a dollar account.
