Google ranking tool
Posted by stuart as seo, search engine optimization, google
I’ve just added another tool to the tools section, it’s a Google ranking tool with a difference.
Instead of just telling you where in the top 100 Google search results your site is for a particular keyword, it actually shows you (Your URL shows up in bold), in a list of the top 100.
This way you can actually go check out the competition from within the list you’re presented by the script.
In the next couple of days I’m going to hook it up to part of the keyword competition analyzer so you can get detailed information on the pages which outrank you for your keyword, so you know what you need to do to outrank them.
Go check out the Google Ranking Tool.

I wrote the previous post a little over 24 hours ago about my new keyword competition analyzer.
Well, as of right now, the previous post is ranked number 3 in Google for the term “keyword competition analyzer”, and the actual page of the tool itself (http://www.pimpmypagerank.com/tools/keyword-competition-analyser/) sits right under it in a “secondary” listing, or whatever you call it, in number 4 posititon.
Holy crap that’s fast!
Nice one Google! ![]()

New keyword competition analyzer
Posted by stuart as site statistics, keywords, seo, search engine optimization, search engine, search
I created the following tool a while ago for my own personal use. It’s a keyword competition analyzer, which, in effect, um, analyzes the competition for a keyword.
I’ve decided to tidy to layout up a bit and make it available for free (to use, not to download).
So what does it do?
Well, you enter a keyword you for which you think you might like to rank in the search engines, and you’re give back the top ranking sites in Google for that keyword.
Once you have your list of competing sites, you click one of the links, and you will be presented with the following information for the page you want to out-rank:
- PageRank of the page in question
- The date the domain in question was registered (domain age is an important factor in ranking)
- The date the doimain in question expires (for all you domain whores)
- The amount of links shown in Google and Yahoo to the page in question
- The amount of links shown in Google and Yahoo to the domain upon which the page resides
- Site saturation for the site in question, from both Google and Yahoo
- The page title, meta description and keywords for the page in question.
So why is this tool useful?
Well, if you’ve spent any time researching keywords, you’ll understand that gathering keywords is only half the work. Analyzing keyword competition is crucial to avoid wasting time on keywords you have no chance of ranking for. This tool saves you the time of loading up Google and Yahoo and checking out the competition, then checking backlinks, site saturation, domain links etc.
A quick note on why I haven’t included MSN Live stats in the analyzer - well, Live is a poxy search engine for a start, and they also don’t make site statistics available.

Getting my own back with Amazon
Posted by stuart as amazon, affiliate marketing
A postscript to my post yesterday about the Amazon affilate program gouging non US based affiliates with a US$15 fee to send us a cheque:
I noticed something interesting checking my Amazon affiliate stats this morning.
I’d had roughly the same ad impressions and click through rate as usual, but I’d had a conversion rate about quadruple my normal.
A little further digging to look at what had been ordered made me laugh out loud.
I have family that lives in the US. It’s my sister, her husband, and their three kids.
We normally use Amazon to send them gifts for birthdays, christmas and the like. So Mrs. PimpMyPageRank had been doing the christmas shopping last night, and ordered all this stuff. I must have still had my (24 hour) cookie in the browser as I’d been doing some testing on one of my affiliate sites during the day yesterday.
It’ll be interesting to see if I get credited the sale, or if Amazon does some sort of IP logging to filter out this sort of thing.

Amazon affiliate program blows if you live outside the US
Posted by stuart as amazon, affiliate marketing
I’ve been having a reasonable amount of success promoting Amazon products on some of my sites, and am rapidly approaching the US$100 threshold to get my first cheque from them.
I wandered over to the payment options page today, and noticed something I hadn’t noticed before: Amazon will charge US$15 to send a cheque to me.
I live outside the US (Australia), so direct bank deposit is unavailable to me (Google can do it, so why can’t Amazon?). I know they’d have to mail me a cheque, but $15 FFS? What a ripoff!
I’m on the 6% commission with Amazon, which means I have to sell $250 worth of products just to cover the cost of them mailing me the cheque!
Bastards.
G'day!
